Ryan Sommers was a four-year member of the cross country and track and field teams from 1989-1993. In cross country, Sommers was a member of the 1990, 1991, and 1992 NAIA National Cross-Country teams who finished 21st, 14th, and 10th respectively. In 1991, Sommers finished 24th in the NAIA, good for the first Wildcat All-American in nine years. Sommers finished as the top runner in the Mid-Central College Conference in 1989 and 1992, and runner-up in 1990. Sommers boasts six of the Wildcats’ Top-50 program performances, while his time of 25:01 in 1989 was good for the school record and his first of two MCC Championships. In 1991 and 1992, Sommers claimed the Mid-Central College Conference Track and Field championship in the 1,500. Sommers finished runner-up in the NAIA District Championship in 1991 while claiming the title in 1992. In 1992, Sommers set the school record in the 800-meter with a time of 1:52.54, a record that still stands today. He and his brother, Robert, were the 1992 Wheeler Award Recipients at the NCCAA National Championships.
