Hall of Honor
The 1984-85 Men's Tennis team blazed the trail for the future of IWU men's tennis. The then Marion College team had an overall record of 20-2 and finished 16th at the NAIA National Tennis Tournament. The roster included Jay Smithley, Chammika DeSilva, David Dennison, Mark Bain, Eddy Shigley, Tim Richards, Bill May, Tim Jeffries, and Dawn Woodard Hobson. Â The Fall season saw a 14-0 record while outscoring their dual match opponents 117-9 and shutting out conference opponents in dual matches 9-0. Â The Wildcats won the Mid-Central Conference tournament collecting 25 of the 27 points. Â The four most impressive wins during the fall season were against Division I Butler 5-4, Tennessee Tech 5-4, IUPU-I 7-2, and IUPU-Ft. Wayne 8-1. The team won the NAIA District 21 tournament which included 13 teams in an open tournament draw format which gave them a national tournament berth. Â The team's finish of 16th place is the highest finish for any MC/IWU men's tennis in the NAIA National tournament with an open draw format.Â
