Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Huntington (Ind.) scored a first half goal and made it stand as the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer Saturday night at Wildcat Field.
Matea Knispel beat Wildcat keeper Alexis Guillemette (FR/Yorba Linda, Calif.) in the 28th minute for the 1-0 lead for Huntington. The goal capped a first half which saw Huntington (9-7-0, 3-4-0 CL) outshoot Indiana Wesleyan 7-4 with a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.
“We dug ourselves a hole in that first half,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Tim Strader. “I thought it was our worse half of soccer we played all year.”
The tides changed in the second half as Indiana Wesleyan went on the attack throughout. Indiana Wesleyan outshot Huntington 12-5 and put seven of those shots on goal. But Huntington keeper Autumn Demott made each save to preserve the shutout.
“The team was challenged at halftime that they either need to step up or let our season fade away,” stated Strader. “With how disappointed we were with the first half, I was pleased with the second half. We showed some fight. Our challenge now is to make it two halves.”
Indiana Wesleyan (7-7-1, 3-3-1 CL) returns to action on Wednesday with a road match at No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.). The match begins at 7 p.m.
