MARION, Ind. - No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan Women's Soccer battled the No. 1 team in the country, the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), today at IWU Soccer Field. After an early score for IWU, it remained 1-0 until the Patriots tied it up late in the game. The two top 5 teams came to a draw in the end, 1-1.
The Wildcats struck first at the turn of the 7th minute. Alyssa Hamann scored her 8th goal in only 6 games as fellow senior Aliyah Denton picked up the assist. That's the third time this season that Denton has assisted a Hamann goal. IWU took the fight to the Patriots, outshooting them 7-2 in the 1st half. Cumberlands fought back and forced 4 saves from Avery Sluss in the second half. UC answered in the 76th minute to tie the game at 1 a piece. The final 15 minutes was a back and forth contest but neither side was able to capitalize on any attacks.
