Women?s Soccer Continues Successful Run with Win at Goshen

Box Score

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer traveled to Goshen (Ind.) on Saturday and defeated the Maple Leafs 3-0 for another Crossroads League victory.

Indiana Wesleyan improves to 7-5-1 this season and 3-1-1 in league play. Indiana Wesleyan increases their unbeaten streak to five matches in addition to pushing their win streak to four. IWU is third place in the Crossroads League with more than half the contests played.

The Wildcats had a slow start in the opening half Saturday evening but were helped on a Maple Leafs own goal in the 35th minute. The goal would be the only score in the first 45 minutes as the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

“We struggled to find a rhythm early on but the girls continued to stay disciplined and patient to find the goal in the first half,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Tim Strader. “We knew coming in that Goshen is a very difficult team to beat on their home pitch as they do not concede many goals at home.”

Indiana Wesleyan would strike early in the second half and help themselves to a three goal cushion. Susan Anthony (SR/Holland, Mich.) scored in the 48th minute from 30-yards out and then Alex Abbott (JR/Fresno, Calif.) scored her first goal in a Wildcat uniform in the 51st minute for the 3-0 lead.

“Susan’s goal was incredible as she made the run out of the center back position and caught the keeper off her line from 30 yards out,” said Strader. “Alex Abbott’s first goal of the season was well earned as she was able to get in behind their backline after Kaitlin Gishwiller created the opportunity off the dribble.”

Indiana Wesleyan limited Goshen to just five shots while Alexis Guillemette (FR/Yorba Linda, Calif.) made three saves for the shutout. IWU earned their third consecutive shutout victory and has not allowed a goal in 347 minutes 35 seconds.

“I could not be more proud of our defensive efforts tonight as our backline was well organized and continued our three game shutout streak,” stated Strader. “We are looking forward to a well-deserved rest day tomorrow before getting back to work preparing for a talented Saint Francis tem on Tuesday at home.”

Indiana Wesleyan hosts Saint Francis (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night. The match will be contested at Wildcat Field.
