Box Score MARION, Ind. -- For the ninth consecutive meeting the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer team did not allow a goal against Goshen (Ind.) in a 2-0 victory Friday night at Wildcat Field.
Dating back to the 2005 season Indiana Wesleyan is 9-0 against Goshen. Every match has been a shutout as Indiana Wesleyan has outscored Goshen 33-0 during that time.
With that in mind the Wildcats took a very quick lead in the fourth minute tonight. Jordan Harris fed Paige LaBonne as the Wildcats captured a 1-0 advantage early. The Wildcats continued to hold the momentum in the first half but failed to capitalize and went into halftime leading 1-0. The Wildcats outshot the Maple Leafs 6-1 in the half and held a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Much like the opening half Indiana Wesleyan controlled the second half with an 8-3 lead in shots. IWU put five shots on goal compared to just one for Goshen. One of the five IWU shots on goal would beat the keeper as Katie Pannabecker scored unassisted in the 75th minute for a 2-0 lead.
LaBonne and Pannabecker’s goals tonight give each of them six on the season. The six goals lead the team.
Rachel Fulkerson was forced to make just one save tonight for Indiana Wesleyan to earn the shutout. The shutout is the second this season for Fulkerson and the fourth for the team.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 5-4-1 on the season and 2-1-0 in Crossroads League play. Goshen drops to 5-6-0 and 0-3-0 in league play.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a home match with Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) at Wildcat Field.
