Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Following a pair of losses to top-10 programs last week the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team got back in the win column Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory at Cedarville (Ohio) University.
No. 10-ranked Indiana Wesleyan scored three first half goals to cruise their fifth win of the season. IWU missed the shutout as Cedarville (3-5) found the back of the net with less than three minutes left.
Sophomore Kelsey Johnston put the Wildcats on the scoreboard very early on Tuesday with a goal in the third minute. Junior Suzy Miesse hit a crossing pass from the right corner than Johnston headed past Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Alysia Bennett for the early tally.
Less than seven minutes later senior Brittany Smith put Indiana Wesleyan up 2-0. Senior Megan Marshall took one of six IWU corner kicks on the night and Smith headed the ball home to the near post.
The Wildcats tacked on one final goal in the opening 45 minutes of action following a Yellow Jacket misplay in the box. Junior Tori Lee gained possession and found sophomore Kylie Dial in front of the goal for the score and 3-0 IWU advantage in the 33rd minute.
Indiana Wesleyan (5-2) outshot the host 6-1 in the opening period with all six being on goal. IWU starting goalkeeper, sophomore Beth Anne Nowak, made one save in her only half of action to earn the victory in net.
The Wildcats did not score in the second half but did outshoot the Yellow Jackets 6-5 for a 12-6 advantage in the match. Sophomore Jamie Speidel was in goal for the Wildcats in the final 45 minutes and allowed one goal while making a pair of saves.
Indiana Wesleyan remains on the road for the next match. IWU will travel to Canton, Ohio to battle Malone (Mich.) University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
