Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- A 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Grace (Ind.) College gives Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer at least a share of the Mid-Central College Conference regular season championship.
Indiana Wesleyan can clinch the title outright on Tuesday with a victory at Goshen (Ind.) College in the regular season finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Wildcats are 7-0-0 in the MCC and own the top seed in the MCC Tournament which will begin next Saturday. With one match remaining in conference play, Spring Arbor (Mich.) University trails IWU by one game, but the Wildcats hold the tie-breaker with the Cougars based on their head-to-head 2-1 victory at Spring Arbor on September 28.
Grace bunkered back defensively with nine players behind the ball to combat the explosive Indiana Wesleyan offense which had scored 20 goals in its last three matches. But the Grace defense could not contain Indiana Wesleyan senior midfielder Brittany Horswell as she scored in the second minute of the match for the early 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 until sophomore forward Kylie Dial rocketed home an unassisted goal midway through the second half for the 2-0 Wildcat advantage.
"We played very well today," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Dr. John Bratcher. "It was good to score two goals against a defensive minded team and on a wet, rainy field."
No. 8-ranked Indiana Wesleyan is now 14-2-0 on the season while Grace tumbles to 7-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the MCC.
