Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team dominated play Tuesday night in a 2-0 victory over Grant County rival Taylor University.
The Wildcats dictated the match and out-shot the visiting Trojans by a wide 16-2 margin. Taylor only had one shot on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan struck in the 25th minute of action via a pair of freshmen. Suzy Miesse made a pass to beat the Taylor defense that a streaking Kristin Perrine received and struck past Taylor goalkeeper Shawna Lane.
The Indiana Wesleyan defense was strong in the opening period. The Wildcats did not allow Taylor any scoring chances as the Trojans did not record a shot in the opening frame.
IWU took the 1-0 advantage into the break.
Indiana Wesleyan continued to pressure the Taylor defense in the second half of play. The Wildcats finally added an insurance goal in the 88th minute as sophomore Brittany Smith assisted senior Becca Mathews to push the IWU lead to 2-0.
Reigning Mid-Central College Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, Melissa Gingerich, earned the win in net for Indiana Wesleyan. Gingerich made one save to produce her second consecutive shutout.
The No. 18-ranked Wildcats improve their mark on the year to 6-1-0 and 2-0-0 in conference action. Taylor falls to 6-3-0 and 0-1-0 in the MCC.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, as the Wildcats host Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University during IWU Homecoming.
