Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Megan Marshall scored the golden goal for the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team as the Wildcats avenged their only Mid-Central College Conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 overtime victory over host Spring Arbor (Mich.) University in the MCC semifinals.
The Wildcats lone conference loss this season came at the hands of the Cougars, a 3-0 defeat at Spring Arbor. IWU entered the match as the tournament's No. 3-seed while Spring Arbor was the No. 2-seed.
The match was played with high winds and cold temperatures. All three goals were scored by teams playing with the wind at their back.
Spring Arbor (13-6-0) opened the contest with the wind advantage and proceeded to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Indiana Wesleyan quickly answered in the second half of action. Seven and a half minutes into the half, sophomore Meagan Marshall found senior Becca Mathews who beat the SAU keeper to knot the score 1-1.
The Wildcats (13-2-1) had the benefit of the wind in the first sudden death overtime period. With 1:08 left, sophomore Brittany Smith hit a through ball to Marshall who beat the keeper to the far post.
With the victory, Indiana Wesleyan will play the winner of Marian (Ind.) College and University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Saturday, November 15 in the MCC championship match. Indiana Wesleyan will host if they play Saint Francis or will play in Indianapolis if Marian wins.
