MARION, Ind. -- No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball continued its hot start to the season as they beat visiting Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) 92-72 for the Wildcats’ fifth straight win to begin the season.

What Went Down

  • The Wildcats used a 12-2 run early in the game to turn a one point deficit into a 17-8 lead six minutes into the game.
  • A 13-3 stretch for Indiana Wesleyan gave them a 30-16 lead with 7:19 left in the first half. Indiana Wesleyan held a double digit lead the rest of the game for all but 12 seconds.
  • DJ McCommons scored for the Eagles as the horn sounded to end the half. Indiana Wesleyan went into halftime leading 43-29.
  • Indiana Wesleyan doubled their halftime advantage as they led by 28 points in the second half. Grant Zawadzki (FR/Troy, Ohio) hit a pair of free throws with 2:54 remaining to give IWU an 89-61 lead.
  • Jonny Marlin (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 assists. Marlin had seven of his assists during the first half.
  • Indiana Wesleyan shot 58.3-percent (35 of 60) from the floor while holding Cincinnati Christian to 35.3-percent (24 of 68).
  • Bob Peters (JR/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) scored a game-high 22 points. He was 8-of-11 shooting and 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
  • Cincinnati Christian outrebounded Indiana Wesleyan 44-34. CCU pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.

Extra! Extra!

  • The loss is the first this season for Cincinnati Christian. They had previously defeated No. 4 Saint Francis (Ind.) 68-56 on November 1.

 

 

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan takes a week off before playing next Tuesday at No. 10 IU East in the first road game of the season. The game with IU East will be the third top-10 opponent in the first six games of the season. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. in Richmond, Indiana.
