Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- An early goal and a late goal doomed Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer Tuesday in a 2-0 loss at University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Saint Francis (8-6-0, 3-2-0 MCC) scored the would-be game-winning goal in the match's second minute on a goal by Katelyn Strout. She would add an insurance goal in the 80th minute of play to account for all the scoring in the Mid-Central College Conference showdown.
"Team intensity and chemistry was not there today," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Dr. John Bratcher. "We were not smart as a team and did not go with the game plan that we had."
The Wildcats (6-7-1, 1-3-1 MCC) outshot the Cougars 13-9 in the contest and put eight of those shots on goal.
"We outshot them," added Bratcher. "But at crucial times we made bad decisions."
Another telling stat was in fouls. Saint Francis was tagged for 12 fouls while Indiana Wesleyan was only called for two, both coming in the first half.
"We weren't going to the ball," Bratcher said. "(Saint Francis) attacked the ball while we were just reacting."
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14 when IWU hosts Bethel (Ind.) College at Wildcat Field.
