Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Box Score) -- The No. 7-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team led by as many as 26 points in the second half en route to a 70-56 victory over Marian (Ind.) College on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The win puts the Wildcats into a first place tie with idle Bethel (Ind.) College at 11-3 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Two conference games remain for both teams.
IWU junior forward Zach Coverstone led the Wildcats with a double-double. He poured in 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Senior guard Antonio Murrell added 13 points and senior forward Landon Adler chipped in 10 points and seven boards.
Freshman Derrick Troyer, starting his fourth straight contest due to starting guard Spencer Harris' injury, contributed 12 points and four assists. Indiana Wesleyan (23-5, 11-3 MCC) ended with 16 assists as a team.
The first half of action was a game of runs. IWU opened play with a 14-4 run out of the gate, but Marian scored the next 12 points to lead 16-14. Indiana Wesleyan then responded with 15 unanswered points for a 29-16 advantage.
The teams traded baskets the rest of the half and the Wildcats led 40-26 at the break.
Indiana Wesleyan slowly built their lead to 26 points in the first 13 minutes of the second half and led 67-41. Marian (10-14, 1-13 MCC) was able to slice into the deficit in the final seven minutes for the final score of 70-56.
Indiana Wesleyan ended the afternoon shooting 49.1-percent (27 of 55) from the floor and 43.5-percent (10 of 23) from long range. Marian shot 41.5-percent (22 of 53) and just 17.6-percent (3 of 17) from 3-point range. The Knights entered the contest at 37-percent shooting from beyond the arc.
The game was the final regular season road contest for the Wildcats as IWU finishes the regular season with a pair of games at Luckey Arena. The first of those games is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17 as the Wildcats host Grace (Ind.) College in a critical MCC showdown.
