Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Box Score) -- In muddy conditions Friday afternoon the No. 9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team slowed University of Saint Francis (Ind.) for a 2-0 Mid-Central College Conference victory in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Wildcat freshman goalkeeper Beth Anne Nowak made six saves for her second shutout of the season and the seventh combined shutout for the team. IWU has allowed just seven goals this year in 14 matches.
Indiana Wesleyan (11-2-1, 5-1-0 MCC) blitzed Saint Francis in the opening period with 12 shots and eight shots on goal. The USF goalkeeper was forced to make seven saves before halftime to keep Saint Francis close.
IWU sophomore midfielder Kristin Perrine found the back of the net for the lone score in the first half. Junior forward Megan Marshall took a corner kick that sophomore midfielder Heidi Breckner headed to a waiting Perrine for the tally in the 25th minute.
The scored remained 1-0 until the 73rd minute. Indiana Wesleyan junior defender Kim Walton took a free kick for the Wildcats which Marshall received the pass and beat the Cougar keeper for an insurance goal at 2-0.
Saint Francis (5-10-0, 3-2-0 MCC) was able to take five of their six shots on goal during the second half, but Nowak and the Indiana Wesleyan defense was up to the challenge to preserve the shutout.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to the pitch at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21 when the Wildcats travel to play at Huntington (Ind.) University.
