Baseball Completes Sweep of Grace

WESTFIELD, IND.  - Indiana Wesleyan Baseball secured a doubleheader victory over Grace at Grand Park on Friday, winning the first game 11–6 and the second game 9–1. The Wildcats showcased their offensive power with a total of 20 runs across both games, highlighted by impressive individual performances.

GAME ONE RECAP
  • In the first game, Indiana Wesleyan struck first as Braxton Brosmer hit a solo home run in the first inning, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The team maintained momentum in the second inning when Trevor Vojtkofsky doubled and was replaced by pinch runner Jackson Mott, who scored on Ben Seitzinger's single to center field, extending the lead to 2-0.
  • The Wildcats increased their advantage in the third inning with a three-run homer by Trevor Vojtkofsky, bringing home Jay Tomes and Matthew Drozlek, and leading 5-1 after three innings. Indiana Wesleyan's offense surged again in the seventh inning with a three-run homer by Jay Tomes, followed by another solo home run from Vojtkofsky, ending the inning with a 9-3 lead.
  • In the eighth inning, Andrew Sinish scored on a wild pitch, and Mark Snowden crossed the plate on a Jay Tomes walk, increasing the lead to 11-3. Although Grace rallied in the ninth inning with three runs, Indiana Wesleyan secured the 11–6 victory.
  • Noah Wathen pitched a solid 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 8 batters. He threw 98 pitches with 58 strikes and managed to walk only 3 batters, contributing to a WHIP of 1.33. Kevin Corcoran came in for relief, pitching 3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs, and striking out 4. Despite allowing 3 doubles, Corcoran secured the save, marking his third of the season, while maintaining a WHIP of 2.00.

GAME TWO RECAP
  • In the second game, Grace took an early lead in the first inning with Carter Stogsdill's double and a single by Matt Friesema, making it 1-0. However, Indiana Wesleyan erupted in the fourth inning, starting with Matthew Drozlek's single followed by Trevor Vojtkofsky's hit. Andrew Sinish, who pinch ran for Drozlek, scored on Nick Wiley's single, followed by Ben Seitzinger scoring on Grant Payson's single, and Wiley crossing the plate after a hit by Carson Bush, leading 3-1 through the fourth inning.
  • The Wildcats continued their offensive onslaught in the fifth inning as Jay Tomes led off with a single and later scored on Drozlek's hit. A wild pitch allowed Drozlek to advance, and after loading the bases with walks, Payson drew a walk to allow Drozlek to score. Jackson Mott, who pinch ran for Payson, scored on Bush's double, bringing in Seitzinger and Wiley to conclude the inning with Indiana Wesleyan ahead 8-1.
  • In the sixth inning, Tomes scored on a balk after being hit by a pitch, advancing to second on a wild pitch and stealing third, extending the lead to 9-1 by the end of the sixth inning. The game concluded with the Wildcats defeating Grace 9-1.
  • Judah Simmons delivered a complete game performance in his first career start for the Wildcats, pitching 7 innings and allowing just 1 earned run. He faced 26 batters, giving up 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. Simmons effectively managed the game with 80 pitches, 55 of which were strikes, resulting in a WHIP of 0.86.
