Forester Bats Too Much For Wildcats to Overcome

HUNTINGTON, IND.  - Indiana Wesleyan baseball faced off against Huntington in a doubleheader on Friday, suffering two defeats: 10-9 in the first game and 12-2 in the second. The Wildcats showcased power at the plate with four home runs in the first game but were unable to secure a win, while game two saw Huntington dominate with five home runs.

GAME ONE RECAP
  • In the first game, IWU took the lead in the second inning with back-to-back home runs from Braxton Brosmer and Nick Wiley, giving them a 2-0 advantage. Huntington responded in the bottom half with two runs of its own, tying the game at 2-2.
  • Greg Vineyard put the Wildcats back on top in the third inning with a solo home run to right center, making it 3-2. Huntington gained the lead in the fifth inning when K. Wilson hit a three-run homer, putting the home team ahead 5-3. Indiana Wesleyan surged back in the eighth inning with Brosmer's two-RBI single and Ben Seitzinger's two-RBI single, propelling them into the lead at 7-5.
  • In the ninth inning, Brosmer hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot that extended the Wildcats' lead to 9-5. However, Huntington answered with a five-run rally in the bottom half, including key hits from J. Ankenbruc and Z. Pelletier, to clinch the 10-9 win.
  • Cam LaFuze pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and 5 earned runs, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He threw 79 pitches, 54 of which were strikes, and recorded a WHIP of 2.68. Noah Wathen contributed 4 innings in relief, yielding 6 hits and 5 earned runs, and striking out 6. Wathen also pitched with a WHIP of 1.75, throwing 82 pitches with 56 strikes. Tarick McGlothin made a brief appearance, pitching .1 of an inning, allowing 1 hit, and issuing 1 walk and 1 hit by pitch.

GAME TWO RECAP
  • In the second game, Huntington took an early lead in the first inning with a two-run homer by O. Willard, bringing home J. Fowler. IWU trailed 2-0 after the first inning. The lead grew in the second inning with a solo home run by T. Reinartz, making it 3-0. The Wildcats got on the board in the third inning when Ben Seitzinger scored on a single by Trevor Vojtkofsky, but Huntington responded with four runs, including a three-run homer by Reinartz, pushing its lead to 7-1.
  • Huntington continued to dominate, adding two more runs in the fourth inning with Willard's second home run of the game, increasing the score to 9-1. In the fifth inning, another three-run homer from Reinartz increased the lead to 12-1. Indiana Wesleyan added a run in the sixth inning when J. Mott scored on an error after doubling, but it wasn't enough as they fell 12-2.
