Esports Stays Undefeated in Spring Season

MARION, Ind. - The Wildcats Esports team had an action packed week as they looked to continue their momentum in the second week of the Spring season.

It all started with Valorant on Monday night, who took on 0-1 Cleveland State. The Wildcats blasted off to an 8-4 start on both Pearl and Haven, giving them the 2-0 win. They move to 2-0 in the West-Central Conference B Division and the first team to hit that milestone so far this season.

Rocket League also looked to continue their momentum this week. They took on 1-0 Augustana College in a tight match. The Wildcats won a close 1-0 in game 1 before blowing out the Vikings 6-2 in game 2. Augustana composed themselves however and game 3 was a high scoring one in regulation. The teams took to overtime tied 5-5 before an incredibly long, over 4 minutes, overtime ended with Augustana taking the 6-5 win. They used that momentum to win 3-0 over the Wildcats in game 4. But the Wildcats held strong. They took a close 2-0 victory in game 5, bringing the match within their grasp. Finally, after an incredibly close 2-2 game 6, Harrison Gilbert, "Farriex",  knocked in the series winning goal under a minute into overtime.

Rocket League also moves to 2-0 in the East Conference B Division, putting themselves in a prime spot for Conference Playoffs.

Both teams will be back in action next week. Valorant plays in a rematch of the Fall's Conference Semifinals against 2-0 Wright State in what looks to be a match that could determine conference seeding. For Rocket League, they get a chance to redeem their preseason loss to 1-1 Indiana Tech. Both matches will be livestreamed to Urban Edge Network, the exclusive livestream service of Indiana Wesleyan Athletics.

Standout Wildcats
  • Evan Stoller, "Pokevan", led the conference in Score in the Fall and, after Monday's performance, he now leads the conference in several categories for the Spring. He had an impressive 48-16-5 KDA Monday night and even had an incredible 366 average combat score on Pearl
  • Freshman Harrison Gilbert, "Farriex", had a career game Wednesday night. He led the Wildcats in score in 4 of 6 games in the series against Augustana. His 1112 points in the long overtime game of game 3 are the most by a Wildcat so far this season
