MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS PIEDMONT UNIVERSITY 5-2

DEMOREST, Ga. - Indiana Wesleyan Men's Tennis picked up a solid win 5-2 against a tough Piedmont University team in the freezing cold on Thursday. With temperatures in the mid 30's at the beginning of the match and a wind chill of 30 degrees, the Wildcats struggled early. IWU was without no. 2 Timo Fischer who fell ill during the warmups. This made changes to the singles and doubles lineup. The cold and new doubles teams had the Wildcats doubles teams at no. 1 and no. 3 down an early break. The number 1 team of Gray and Trento got the break back in the middle of the first set and then got a second break to clinch the set 6-3. After number 3 doubles lost it came down to the number 2 team of Fuqua and Clerc for the clinch of the doubles point with a 6-4 win. In singles, no.1 player Ethan Gray fell ill and lost quickly. With the Wildcats even at 1-1, no. 2 singles Leif Clerc came through with a 2, 4 win. No. 3-6 singles went to third set tiebreakers with Wildcats winning three of the four matches to seal the 5-2 win.

GLEGHORN PERSPECTIVE

  • Coach James Gleghorn said,  "It was a quality effort for the guys on a tough day. Having two players sick and a cold windy night was difficult but the guys really stepped up.  Hopefully l, we can string a few wins in a row to finish up spring break."
