MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan baseball head coach
Ian Macdonald is stepping down after accepting a Minor League Manager position with the San Francisco Giants organization.
"We are thankful for the work Ian has done in our baseball program throughout his time as both an assistant and as our head coach," said
Deane Webb, Athletic Director. "The team has succeeded competitively, and incredible spiritual growth has been evident throughout the program. As he goes into this next endeavor that God has prepared for him, he leaves here having both contributed to and grown because of the department around him."
In his one season at the helm, Macdonald led the Wildcats to a 34-15 record and 27-9 in the Crossroads League. The 34 wins ranks as the fifth most in program history, As an assistant coach, Macdonald helped the Wildcats to their first trip to the NAIA World Series with a 41-20-1 record, Opening Round Championship, Crossroads League Tournament Championship, and led a pitching staff that set the program record with 527 strikeouts in 2023.
"I am extremely grateful for my time at IWU; the people & experiences — the impact it has had on me personally & professionally," said
Ian Macdonald. "Thank you to AD
Deane Webb & VP Mark DeMichael for their ongoing support & mentorship over the last several years. Thank you to our assistant coaches & support staff who have selflessly poured their time, effort, & talent into the program. Last, thank you to our players. Simply put, you are the best part of the job. It has been a great privilege to coach each of you. As a program, I am extremely proud of WHAT we accomplished over the last 4 years … but more importantly, HOW we accomplished what we did and WHO we accomplished it with. Creating an environment & experience that: challenges & supports players to grow in their faith, graduates leaders of excellence, serves our community, & competes for championships on the field."
Steve Friend and
Jeff Pawlik will serve as Co-Interim Head Coach for the 2025 season. A national search for the Wildcats next head coach will begin at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
