MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan University's quest for a new Athletic Director has come to end, as Vice President of Student Development and Athletics Mark DeMichael has named Deane Webb as the new leader of Wildcat Athletics.
"We are pleased to welcome Deane Webb as the new Director of Athletics at Indiana Wesleyan University," said Mark DeMichael, Vice President for Student Development and Athletics. "Deane brings a wealth of experience from a variety of institutions and has shown a consistent commitment to excellence at each of those places. He is a dynamic leader who rose to the top of a talented pool of candidates due to his deep commitment to Christ, his understanding of the IWU Athletic Mission and what it means to Disciple students for Christ through the avenue of Intercollegiate Athletics. Deane expressed a clear vision for the continued growth of IWU Athletics and we are excited to see how the Lord is going to do His transformational work in the lives of our student athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and support staff through Dean's leadership."
Deane is no stranger to IWU, having served as the Wildcats Head Volleyball Coach from 1997-2001 before departing for East Tennessee State University for the same position. A volleyball coach for the last 25-years, Webb comes to IWU from Ohio University where he has been since 2014. Prior to Ohio University, Webb spent 11 years at Belmont University.
"Thank you to President David Wright, Chancellor Rod Reed, and Vice President Mark DeMichael for the opportunity to serve again at IWU," said Webb. "Although I completed my time as a coach in Marion in 2001, I have held a special place in my heart for IWU ever since. I have long hoped for an opportunity to return, and I am beyond thrilled that God has created this opportunity. It is truly an honor and privilege to join the coaches and staff of the athletic department as we serve God and the IWU community together."
Webb holds a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and a Master's of Science in Exercise Physiology/Sports Psychology from the University of North Texas.
Webb will assume the duties of his new position in late June.
