BASEBALL SWEEPS MARIAN, OUTSCORES KNIGHTS 31-14

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan baseball team swept a pair of games against Marian University, winning 9-1 with ease before picking up a slugfest victory by an 11-7 count.

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 1

IWU jumped out to with a three-run fourth inning and a one-run fifth for a 4-0 edge. Leading 4-1 after five innings, the visitors pounded out five runs in the seventh stanza for the 9-1 win.
Denver Blinn and MJ Stavola posted three hits apiece while Lucas Goodin and Tye Thixton accounted for two hits apiece.
Goodin led everyone with three RBI while also scoring twice. Zach Rabe drove in a couple of Wildcats while Stavola crossed home twice.
Hunter Hoffman worked 7.2 innings on the mound, striking out 11 batters. Gabe Fleace finished the game on the bump, working 1.1 frames with one strikeout.
Back-to-back doubles from Goodin and Stavola gave the visitors a 2-0 edge before Stavola scored on an error for a 3-0 advantage. A bases loaded walk to Goodin pushed the score to 4-0.
In the seventh, Tanner Killian doubled in Blinn, who had reached on a lead-off triple. Goodin's double plated Killian. With the bases loaded, Rabe doubled in two. Thixton's single scored Nick Coy for the 9-1 lead.

INSIDE THE BOX – GAME 2

Thixton led off the second game with a round-tripper over the left field wall on a 2-2 pitch.
In the second inning, Coy reached on a one-out error. He moved to second when Blake Storr singled to right field. After Roman was hit by a pitch, Thixton doubled, clearing the bases. Blinn's groundout drove in Thixton for a 5-0 lead.
Storr's single to right in the sixth plated Blake Jenkins, making it 6-3. Leading 6-4 in the sixth, Blinn doubled and scored on a single from Jenkins.
Tied at 7-7 in the top of the seventh, Storr's base hit scored Stavola for an 8-7 lead. Thixton belted a three-run homer for insurance and an 11-7 lead.
Jake Engelkes worked 5.2 innings, striking out seven batters. Killian finished the sixth, striking out one. Parker Johnson threw the seventh stanza, striking out two.

LUCKY NUMBER 7

Thixton recorded three hits in the nightcap, including a pair of homers. He scored three runs but drove in seven of his team's 11 runs.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Wildcats take the field again Friday, Apr. 9 at home against No. 20 Taylor. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
