BASEBALL STAYS PERFECT IN LEAGUE PLAY

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GOSHEN, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan improved to 19-8 on the season with a pair of victories Friday evening at Goshen. The Wildcats hurled a shutout in the first and nearly had another one in the second game.

INSIDE THE BOX – Game 1
  • A Colby Jenkins double in the third inning plated Luke Roman and Tye Thixton, making it a 2-0 game. Two batters later, Jenkins scored on a Lucas Goodin grounder.
  • Thixton singled and stole a bag in the fifth. After hustling to third on a Jenkins hit, Goodin singled in Thixton and Jenkins, pushing the margin to 5-0. 
  • IWU scored four runs in the seventh to break things open. MJ Stavola's grounder allowed Jenkins to cross home plate. Tanner Killian scored on an error. Another miscue allowed Goodin to score. Roman laid down a sacrifice bunt that plated Coy for a 9-0 edge.
  • The Wildcats made it 10-0 in the ninth with a bases loaded walk to Jenkins, which scored Coy.
  • Jon Young got the start and struck out 11 batters while giving up just six hits to pick up the win.  


PERFECTION
  • Tye Thixton was perfect at the plate. He went four-for-four and scored a pair of runs. He was also walked a game-high two times.


MULTI-HIT PERFORMANCES

TERRIFIC TRIO
INSIDE THE BOX – Game 2
  • The Wildcats broke through with the first two runs of the game in the fourth stanza. Tanner Killian singled in Denver Blinn, who had a double to start the inning. Killian scored on a sacrifice bunt by MJ Stavola to make it 2-0.
  • Up 2-1 in the sixth, Killian launched a two-run homer for a 4-1 advantage.
  • Austin Swift worked five innings, striking out five to pick up the win. Max Engstrom threw the final two frames, posting a pair of strikeouts, to pick up the save.


DOING WORK
  • Tanner Killian went two-for-three in the nightcap and drove in all three runs. He smashed a two-run homer, giving the visitors a three-run lead. He also scored twice.


NEXT TIME OUT
  • The Wildcats take the field again tomorrow for the final two games of the series. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
