BASEBALL SLUGS IN SPLIT WITH CLEARY

MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan baseball split with Cleary in what turned out to be a career day for Lucas Goodin on Wednesday evening at Wildcat Field. 

 

GAME VITALS

  • GAME 1: IWU lost to Cleary 6-4 (8 innings)
  • GAME 2: IWU defeated Cleary 17-9 (7 innings)
  • RECORDS: Indiana Wesleyan 10-9, CL 3-0 | Cleary 5-10

INSIDE THE BOX - Game 1

  • The Wildcats and Cougars went back and forth with IWU forcing extra innings by scoring a run in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Cleary plated two runs in the eighth to take the victory. 
  • Caleb Brenczweski went 2 for 3 with two RBI.
  • Nick Coy went 1 for 3 with a triple.

 

INSIDE THE BOX - Game 2

  • Indiana Wesleyan bounced back to win a slugfest after allowing seven runs in the first inning. 
  • Lucas Goodin has a day going 4 for 5 with two doubles and a home run with three RBI and four runs scored.
  • Tye Thixton also raked going 4 for 5 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored. 
  • Colby Jenkins hit his first collegiate home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. 
  • Mitchell Smith went 6.2 innings allowing two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts. 
  • As a team, the Wildcats went 19 for 34 at the plate. 

 

BENJAMIN PERSPECTIVE

  • Proud of the fight and playing over the first inning. We had a lot of quality at-bats and Mitchell Smith was a huge lift on the mound. When you attack the game you put yourself typically in a good position.

 

NEXT TIME OUT

  • Indiana Wesleyan head to Upland, Ind. for a three-game set with Taylor on Friday and Saturday. First pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m.
