ROME, Ga. - Martin Carrizo and Stefano Di Aloy came up just short Sunday, falling 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the 2020 ITA Cup Doubles Finals. Christopher Papa and Ivan Smith of San Diego Christian topped IWU in the finals. In 2019 the duo ranked No. 3 in the NAIA double ranking and 900th in the world. The Wildcat duo completed the fall season posting a record of 16-1 in doubles play, with their only loss coming today.
This was the first time in ITA history the event featured only NAIA squads.
SHIGLEY PERSPECTIVE
- This was a phenomenal tournament for our entire men's and women's team! I am proud of our players in not just how we performed on the court, but our behavior and how we represented Indiana Wesleyan University and the Kingdom of God.
- Steph and Martin played a high level of tennis this week! They were just a couple of points away from winning our first men's national title!
- This weekend put IWU Tennis on the map, and I look forward to the spring.
