UPLAND, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball completed Crossroads League play on Monday in a 7-5 loss in 10 innings to Huntington (Ind.). The game was played on a neutral field at Taylor University. All five Wildcat runs came on home runs as Indiana Wesleyan finishes the league schedule with a 15-12 record.
EARLY DEFICIT
Huntington scored four runs in the first inning and all four runs were unearned. HU added another run in the third inning to build an early 5-0 lead. Despite the early runs, IWU starting pitcher Conner Cantrell had a solid performance in 6.0 innings of work. He gave up eight hits and five runs but only one run was earned.
COMEBACK CATS
Despite the early five run deficit, Indiana Wesleyan responded with a four run third inning and added one more run in the fourth inning for a 5-5 tie. Caleb Eder drilled a grand slam in the third inning and Steven Busby crushed a home run in the fourth inning to tie the game.
EXTRA INNINGS
The teams went five innings without another run to force extra innings. Adrian Perez hit a 2-run home run for the Foresters in the 10th inning for a 7-5 lead. Indiana Wesleyan went down in order in the home half for the 7-5 final score.
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan is scheduled to host Miami-Hamilton (Ohio) on Tuesday at Wildcat Field. The single game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
