MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball scored double digit runs in all three games in their weekend series with Bethel (Ind.) for a three game sweep. Following a 15-5 win on Friday, Indiana Wesleyan swept a Saturday doubleheader with scores of 10-2 and 10-7. IWU has won seven straight to vault to the top half of the Crossroads League and has just one less win than second place Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).
GAME 1 - Indiana Wesleyan def. Bethel, 10-2
Conner Cantrell starred on the mound with a complete game effort. He allowed two runs on five hits over 7.0 innings of work. He walked a pair and struck out two on just 86 pitches.
The Wildcats continue to put up crooked numbers on the scoreboard in multiple innings during the win streak. IWU scored in four of the six innings that includes multiple runs in three frames.
Lucas Goodin crushed a home run while Parker Johnson and Nick Coy each had doubles. Johnson scored three times and Ethan English, Caleb Eder, and Tye Thixton all contributed two RBIs.
GAME 2 – Indiana Wesleyan def. Bethel, 10-7
The Wildcats did all their damage from the second through the fifth innings as IWU scored multiple runs in each of the four innings. After IWU tied the score 2-2 after two innings, IWU scored three more in the third inning and did not trail again.
The depth of the Indiana Wesleyan lineup continued to shine as eight Wildcats combined for 11 hits. The bottom third of the order – Lucas Goodin, Steven Busby, and Nick Coy – combined to go 5-for-11 with a home run, a double, four RBIs, and three run scored.
Zee Breytenbach was credited with the win in relief. He improves to 2-1 on the season as Bethel managed one unearned run off the reliever in 2.1 innings. Tanner Killian was dominant in the ninth inning to seal his fourth save of the season.
