PULASKI, Tenn. – Runs were aplenty on Wednesday as Indiana Wesleyan University baseball and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) each won a game in the final Spring Break games for the Wildcats. IWU won the opener 21-2 while Martin Methodist captured the nightcap 11-9.
GAME 1
Indiana Wesleyan took control of the game very quickly with eight runs in the 1st inning and six more in the 2nd inning for a 14-0 lead.
Tye Thixton had a game as he went 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Thixton pounded a pair of 3-run home runs and added an RBI double to pace the Wildcats.
Wildcat hitters had just 11 hits in the win but drew 10 walks.
Kyle Hall pitched a complete game as he allowed just two runs on four hits. Hall struck out six to earn the victory on the mound.
GAME 2
Martin Methodist used an eight run 2nd inning to build an early 8-1 lead. However, Indiana Wesleyan plated five runs in the 3rd inning to close the gap to 8-6. Following a MMC run in the 3rd inning, Indiana Wesleyan scored two in the 5th and one in the 6th to tie the score 9-9. Martin Methodist answered with two runs in the home half of the 6th for the 11-9 lead and eventual win.
IWU displayed their power with four extra base hits. Caleb Eder and Steven Busby each hit home runs while Brady West and Ethan English had doubles.
Lucas Goodin, Ethan English, Steven Busby, and Tye Thixton all had multi-hit games.
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan opens Crossroads League play this weekend with a three game set at Marian (Ind.) in Indianapolis. The teams play a single game at 4 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m.
