FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball won the opening game of the Saturday doubleheader at Saint Francis (Ind.). Jon Young was brilliant in 6.0 innings in a starting role and Jordan Wharton had a big game at the plate to lead the Wildcats to a 9-5 win. Saint Francis managed to earn a split with a 6-3 win in game two.
GAME 1
Jon Young was phenomenal in earning the win on the mound in game one. Young did not allow an earned run (two unearned) over 6.0 innings while scattering four hits and two walks. Young struck out 11 Cougars to move to 4-1 on the season.
Leading 3-1 after four innings, the Wildcats plated six runs in the 5th inning for a 9-1 lead. The Cougars added four runs in the final inning for the 9-5 final score.
Indiana Wesleyan had action on the bases all game long. IWU knocked out 12 hits and drew five free passes. Even though the Wildcats scored nine runs, IWU still left 14 runners on base.
Jordan Wharton had a three hit performance with a double and two RBIs. Ethan English, Brady West, and Tye Thixton also had multi hit games.
GAME 2
Saint Francis scored three in the 1st inning for the quick 3-0 lead. USF led the rest of the game. Trailing 4-1, Indiana Wesleyan scored two runs in the 6th inning to draw within one at 4-3. But IWU did not score again and USF added two more runs in the 7th for a 6-3 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan outhit Saint Francis by a 10-7 margin. Half of IWU hits were doubles, coming from Tye Thixton, Parker Johnson, Caleb Eder, Brady West, and Ethan English.

Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) begin a three game series on Monday at Wildcat Field. The teams play a single game at 4 p.m. on Monday and follow with a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 2 p.m.
