NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball played at IU Southeast on Wednesday in a doubleheader featuring a pair of team receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll. IU Southeast scrapped out a 5-4 victory in the opener before taking the nightcap 12-1.
GAME 1
The Wildcats gained the quick 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning with RBIs on a Caleb Eder double and a Tye Thixton bases loaded walk. The lead was short lived as IU Southeast plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning on four hits.
IWU tied the score in the top of the 2nd when Noah Bauman scored on an error by the Grenadiers second baseman. However, IU Southeast plated two more runs in the bottom of that inning on a two-out, two-run single for a 5-3 lead.
Jordan Wharton had an RBI groundout in the 4th inning to close the gap to 5-4. Indiana Wesleyan managed just two base runners over the final three innings to drop the opening game.
GAME 2
IU Southeast scored in five of the six innings they came to bat. IUSE led 5-0 in the 5th inning when the Grenadiers plated five runs to blow it open and lead 10-0. Gaven Schreiber singled home Thixton in the 7th inning to account for the lone IWU run.
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan travels to Tennessee to begin their Spring Break Trip this weekend. IWU opens with a three game set at Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday in Lebanon, Tennessee.
