WESTFIELD, Ind. – #RV Indiana Wesleyan University baseball collected a win in game one over No. 22 Indiana Tech on Friday with a 5-2 victory. Indiana Tech earned the split with a 2-1 decision in the nightcap that was headlined by Caleb Eder’s complete game and home run.
GAME 1
The Wildcats put up a four spot in the first inning and that was all starting pitcher Jon Young needed. Young allowed one earned run over 6.0 innings and struck out four Warriors. Tanner Killian pitched the seventh inning to earn the save.
IWU scored four times on six hits in the opening frame of the day. Nine different Wildcats batted in the inning and four batters collected an RBI.
Indiana Tech threatened in the seventh inning as they loaded the bases with two outs in a 5-2 game. Killian closed the door with a three-pitch strike out.
GAME 2
The Warriors plated a pair of runs in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Starting pitcher Caleb Eder shut the Warriors down the rest of the game with no more runs. He pitched a complete game and allowed only the two runs on five hits with four punch-outs.
Eder provided the lone Wildcat run with a home run in the sixth inning to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
The Wildcats threatened in the final inning with two on and one out. However, Pratt was able to save the game for the Warriors with an infield pop up and a fly out to center field to end the game.
COACH BENJAMIN SAID…
“It felt like a league weekend since there were two teams getting national attention competing. We were very competitive on the mound and game planned very well at the plate. Veterans are providing great leadership while our younger players are showing noticeable growth.”
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan and Indiana Tech will battle again on Saturday at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. The games have been moved up to a 10 a.m. start time due to impending weather forecasted for later in the day.
