Baseball Overcomes 8 Run Deficit, Wins on Walk-Off in 14th Inning

MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball pulled off an astonishing 11-10 win in 14 innings on Wednesday vs. Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.). IWU mounted an incredible comeback win with a walk-off hit in the 14th inning after trailing 8-0 earlier in the game. IWU pitching allowed no runs and two hits over the final 10 innings. Game two was suspended in the 2nd inning due to fog.

GAME 1 RECAP

  • Taylor led 8-0 after hitting in the 2nd inning.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored nine times in the 2nd inning for a 9-8 lead. The first nine batters in the inning reached base and scored. Jordan Wharton capped the inning with a go-ahead 2-run home run.
  • Taylor regained the lead 10-9 with two runs in the 4th inning but a Caleb Eder solo blast tied the game at 10-10 in the 5th inning.
  • Nick Coy led off the 7th inning with a deep fly ball that was caught by the left fielder against the wall.
  • Indiana Wesleyan loaded the bases in the 11th inning with nobody out but failed to score.
  • Taylor left two men on base in each the 12th and 13th innings.
  • In the 14th inning, Indiana Wesleyan loaded the bases with one out. Hunter Ryan lifted a single over the drawn in outfield for the walk-off victory.
  • The teams combined to use 37 players in the game.
     

NEXT TIME OUT

  • Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor were scoreless through 1 inning in game two before fog caused the game to be suspended. It will pick back up in the 2nd inning on Tuesday.
  • IWU is scheduled to open a 3-game weekend series on Friday vs. Saint Francis (Ind.) at Wildcat Field. The single 9-inning game begins at 5 p.m.
