Spring Arbor Shuts Out Baseball in Crossroads League Tournament Opener

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Duncan Patterson pitched a two-hit shutout as No. 3-seed Spring Arbor (Mich.) beat No. 6-seed Indiana Wesleyan University baseball 3-0 in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament. Indiana Wesleyan will look to stave off elimination as they play No. 7-seed Goshen (Ind.) on Monday in Huntington, Indiana.

What Went Down

  • Spring Arbor scored the game-winning run in the 3rd inning on a Jeremiah RBI single to left field.
  • Chris Triplett and Conner Lengerich had back-to-back RBI singles with two outs in the 7th inning to increase the Spring Arbor lead to 3-0.
  • Duncan Patterson was stellar for the Cougars with a two-hit shutout. Thomas Sautel (FR/Littleton, Colo.) was the last Wildcat to reach base with a lead-off walk in the sixth inning. He was promptly doubled up on a bunt on the next batter up. Patterson did not allow a hit over the final four-plus innings.
  • Andrew Breytenbach (FR/Palatine, Ill.) and Nick Yoder (SR/Millersburg, Ohio) accounted for the only Indiana Wesleyan hits. Caleb Birkey (SR/Granger, Ind.) and Thomas Sautel each drew a walk.
  • Jacob Gividen (SO/Portage, Mich.) suffered the loss for the Wildcats as he surrendered three runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan will next play in an elimination game in the Crossroads League Tournament on Monday. IWU battles No. 7 Goshen (Ind.) at 12 p.m. at Huntington (Ind.).
