Baseball Sweeps Goshen

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball allowed just a single run on Tuesday as they swept visiting Goshen (Ind.) in a Crossroads League doubleheader. Indiana Wesleyan earned wins by scores of 6-1 and 1-0 at Wildcat Field.

What Went Down (Game 1)

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored in the 1st inning on a Caleb Eder (FR/North Vernon, Ind.) RBI groundout to second base.
  • IWU added two more runs in the 2nd inning. Nick Yoder (SR/Millersburg, Ohio) had a RBI groundout and Brandon Shaffer (JR/Albuquerque, N.M.) followed with a RBI double.
  • Goshen cut the lead to 3-1 in the 3rd inning which was aided by an Indiana Wesleyan error.
  • Nick Yoder contributed a two-run singled in the 4th inning for a 5-1 IWU lead.
  • Logan Tomlinson (JR/Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) completed the scoring with a sac fly in the 5th inning.
  • Kyle Hall (FR/Chatham, Ill.) (4-2) earned the victory with one unearned run on three hits in 5.0 innings. He walked one and struck out six Maple Leafs. Tim Olvaney (FR/Hemet, Calif.) did not allow a run in 2.0 innings of relief.
  • Nick Yoder was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI while Brandon Shaffer had a 2-for-3 game with a walk.

     

What Went Down (Game 2)

  • Indiana Wesleyan broke a scoreless tie in the 6th inning. IWU loaded the bases with no out and got a run in on a Logan Tomlinson walk. He was down 0-2 in the count and worked the run scoring walk in a 10-pitch sequence.
  • Caleb Birkey (SR/Granger, Ind.) grounded into a double play to end the threat as Indiana Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead into the final inning.
  • Austin Rook hit an infield single to begin the Goshen 7th inning. Cody McCoy singled with one out to put two Maple Leafs on base and they both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.
  • Alexander Breytenbach (FR/Palatine, Ill.) induced a pop up from Brand Stoltzfus that Nick Yoder caught for the final out.
  • Alexander Breytenbach (4-2) earned the win in relief. He did not allow a run in 1.2 innings.
  • Steve Cabe (SR/Niles, Mich.) provided another strong start on the mound. He had a no-decision as he did not allow a run on five hits in 5.0-plus innings.
  • Goshen outhit Indiana Wesleyan 7-2.

  • Indiana Wesleyan travels to Indianapolis to play Marian (Ind.) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
