What Went Down

  • Taylor had their first two batters reach and were on second and third base with nobody out. Bryan Beachy (SR/Kokomo, Ind.) got a pop out and a strikeout and nearly got out of the jam unscathed. But an error allowed Taylor to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Brandon Shaffer (JR/Albuquerque, N.M.) hit an RBI double in the 4th inning as Indiana Wesleyan tied the score 1-1.
  • Brian Moore hit a sac fly in the 7th inning to give the Trojans the 2-1 lead.
  • Brandon Shaffer led off the bottom of the 7th with a walk and Derek Shomon (SR/Glenview, Ill.) followed with a double to deep right center field to put the tying run on third and the winning run on second base. Caleb Eder (FR/North Vernon, Ind.) hit a sac fly to tie the score 2-2 but Indiana Wesleyan was unable to end the game as it would take extra innings to determine a winner.
  • The Trojans hard runners on the corner with two outs in the 10th inning. A ground ball to Nick Yoder (SR/Millersburg, Ohio) as shortstop seemed to end the inning but a wild throw allowed TU to score the game-winning run.
  • Indiana Wesleyan went down in order in the bottom of the 10th inning.
  • Bryan Beachy had a no-decision with two runs -- one earned -- on four hits in 6.1 innings. He walked three and struck out six. Kyle Hall (FR/Chatham, Ill.) took the loss in relief with one unearned run in 3.2 innings.
  • Brandon Shaffer, Derek Shomon, Craig Nesselhuf (SR/Littleton, Colo.), and Logan Tomlinson (JR/Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) all had two hits for the Wildcats. Shomon, Shaffer, and Tomlinson all had one double.
