WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Bryan Beachy (SR/Kokomo, Ind.) and Jacob Gividen (SO/Portage, Mich.) threw complete game efforts on Friday as Indiana Wesleyan University baseball won both ends of a doubleheader vs. Saint Francis (Ind.) in the Crossroads League opener for both teams. The games were played at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.

What Went Down (Game 1)
- Derek Shomon (SR/Glenview, Ill.) hit a two-out, two run single in the third inning for the only runs of the game.
- The two runs were more than enough for IWU starting pitcher Bryan Beachy who compiled a complete game shutout. Beachy scattered four hits and two walks in 7.0 innings. He struck out seven Cougars.
- The Beachy shutout is the first this season for the Wildcats.
- Saint Francis attempted a seventh inning rally as they put two on with one out. But Beachy got a strikeout and a pop up in the infield to secure the victory.
- Derek Shomon was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBI.
What Went Down (Game 2)
- Saint Francis put up two runs on three hits in the first inning for the early 2-0 lead.
- Indiana Wesleyan responded with a five run second inning to take a 5-2 lead. The first six Wildcats to come to the plate reached base in the inning which included three walks.
- IWU added on to their lead in the fourth inning with three more runs to lead 8-2. Thomas Sautel (FR/Littleton, Colo.) had the big hit in the inning with a two run single.
- Saint Francis outhit Indiana Wesleyan 9-7 in the game.
- Jacob Gividen gave Indiana Wesleyan a second straight complete game on Friday. He allowed two runs on nine hits and no walks. He struck out six in the win.
- Thomas Sautel and Nick Yoder (SR/Millersburg, Ohio) both had two hits from the bottom to spots in the order. Sautel had three RBI while Yoder reached base four times with the two hits and two walks.
Next Time Out
- Indiana Wesleyan and Saint Francis will get right back at it on Saturday with a second doubleheader. The games will be at 1 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
