NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball traveled south to Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana today. The teams split a doubleheader as the Wildcats improve to 14-7 on the season.

What Went Down (Game 1)

• Indiana Wesleyan struck in the top of the first inning with two runs on no hits. Andrew Breytenbach (FR/Palatine, Ill.) and Brandon Shaffer (JR/Albuquerque, N.M.) each walked to open the game and advanced on a wild pitch. Craig Nesselhuf (SR/Littleton, Colo.) followed with an RBI groundout and Derek Shomon (SR/Glenview, Ill.) hit a ground ball to third base that was booted to allow the second run to score.
• The Wildcats added another two runs in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead.
• Nick Yoder (SR/Millersburg, Ohio) laid down a squeeze bunt to score Logan Tomlinson (JR/Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Brandon Shaffer hit a two out RBI single for the 4-0 lead.
• IU Southeast scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the lead in half 4-2
• Matt Blankenship (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio) earned the save as he got the final out on a punch-out with the tying run on first base.
• Jacob Gividen (SO/Portage, Mich.) was the winning pitcher as he allowed just one run on five hits in 5.2 innings.
• Five Wildcat pitchers were used in the win.
• Derek Shomon was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks while Andrew Breytenbach reached two times on walks.
  
   

What Went Down (Game 2)

• Indiana Wesleyan had a huge first inning with six runs on six hits. IWU left three on base to close the inning.
• The first six batters reached base in the first inning.
• The Grenadiers overtook the Wildcats with three runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings for the 9-8 advantage.
• Indiana Wesleyan attempted a rally in the seventh inning as Nick Yoder and Andrew Breytenbach reached on errors on back-to-back plays with one out. But IWU was unable to find the game-tying hit as they fell 9-8.
• Andrew Breytenbach was 3-for-5 with one RBI. Caleb Eder (FR/North Vernon, Ind.) added a 2-for-3 performance with two RBI while Caleb Birkey (SR/Granger, Ind.) and Nick Yoder each contributed a pair of singles.
• Marcus Price (JR/Hartford City, Ind.) suffered the loss on the mound for Indiana Wesleyan. He allowed three runs in his 1.0 inning of work. Alexander Breytenbach (FR/Palatine, Ill.) was the starting pitcher and he also gave up three runs in 2.0 innings.
