WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball was able to play again at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana and earned a doubleheader split with Saint Xavier (Ill.). Indiana Wesleyan won the opener 4-1 before Saint Xavier claimed the split with a 5-3 game two victory.

What Went Down (Game 1)

• Saint Xavier scored the first run of the day in the top of the third inning.
• Indiana Wesleyan responded with two runs in the home half of the third inning for a 2-1 lead.
• Brandon Shaffer (JR/Albuquerque, N.M.) smashed his seventh home run of the season in the fifth to increase the Wildcat lead to 4-1.
• Caleb Eder (FR/North Vernon, Ind.) pitched a complete game in the 4-1 victory in the opening contest. Eder allowed one earned run in 7.0 innings while striking out eight Cougars.
• Andrew Breytenbach (FR/Palatine, Ill.) was 3-for-3 at the dish. Shaffer and Nick Yoder (SR/Millersburg, Ohio) accounted for the only other IWU hits.
  
   

What Went Down (Game 2)

• Saint Xavier built an early advantage with two runs in the first and one more in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Another run in the fourth gave SXU a 4-0 cushion.
• Taylor Staff (JR/Springfield, Ill.) hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Craig Nesselhuf (SR/Littleton, Colo.) to make it a 4-1 game.
• Thomas Sautel (FR/Littleton, Colo.) hit his first collegiate home run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit in half at 4-2.
• The Cougars scored in the top of the fifth inning to lead 5-2. Taylor Staff ripped a two-out double to score Caleb Birkey (SR/Granger, Ind.) which would be the final run of the game.
• Bryan Beachy (SR/Kokomo, Ind.) suffered the loss with three earned runs in 3.0 innings.
• Taylor Staff was 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and one RBI.
• Saint Xavier outhit Indiana Wesleyan 13-5.
