NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- In a non-league match on Saturday morning the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team pulled out a 7-2 victory at IU Southeast in New Albany, Indiana.
The victory evens the Wildcat record during the fall season to 2-2.
Indiana Wesleyan gained an early advantage with two wins in doubles. The No. 2 team of Joel Montgomery (SO/Powell, Ohio) and Tyler Abbott (FR/Atlanta, Ga.) won 8-3 while the No. 3 team of Leonard Mathews (SR/Merrillville, Ind.) and Austin Christner (SO/Goshen, Ind.) claimed an 8-4 victory. Brandon Dubuque (SR/Marion, Ind.) and Gavin White (JR/Lakeland, Fla.) lost 8-3 in No. 1-doubles.
The Wildcats went on to win five of the six singles matches to complete the 7-2 victory. White won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 while Dubuque earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No.2 play. Montgomery won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, Mathews was victorious 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, and Abbott won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Christner was defeated 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 in the No. 6 battle.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Crossroads League action on Tuesday as the Wildcats host Grace (Ind.) at the Sutter Tennis Center. The contest begins at 3 p.m.
