UPLAND, Ind. -- Taylor (Ind.) completed the season sweep of Indiana Wesleyan University baseball on Saturday with two wins in Upland, Indiana.
Taylor earned a come-from-behind 5-3 victory in the opening game on Saturday and then won 12-2 in the nightcap. TU won both ends of a doubleheader on Friday to claim all four games in the season series.
Jacob Murphy (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) gave Indiana Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the opening game with a RBI groundout in the second inning. Kaleb DeFreese (SO/Bristol, Ind.) had a RBI single in the third inning and Thomas Barnes (SR/Marion, Ind.) drilled a home run in the fifth inning as Indiana Wesleyan built a 3-0 advantage.
Three runs seemed to be plenty for Indiana Wesleyan starting pitcher Jacob Gividen (FR/Portage, Mich.) as he took a shutout into the sixth inning. But two hits and two walks in the sixth inning ended his day. Taylor went on to score five runs in the frame to build a 5-3 lead.
Gividen finished with four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings. Jack Collingsworth (JR/Apple Valley Calif.) finished the sixth inning and allowed one run on two hits in 0.2 innings.
Craig Nesselhuf (JR/Littleton, Colo.), Cam Screeton (SR/Rochester, Ind.), and Thomas Barnes all produced two hits in the loss. Barnes had a home run, two runs scored, and one RBI.
The Trojans quickly put game two out of reach with a five run second inning and four run third inning to create a 9-0 lead. TU increased the lead to 11-0 with two more runs in the fourth inning.
Kennan Barnett (SO/Newburgh, Ind.) was the pitcher of record for the Wildcats with eight runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings. Murphy, Collingsworth, Nick Koh (SO/Auckland, N.Z.), Taylor Staff (SO/Springfield, Ill.), Matt Donker (FR/Holland, Mich.), and Preston Fugita (SR/Littleton, Colo.) accounted for all six IWU hits.
Indiana Wesleyan next plays at Goshen (Ind.) on Tuesday in Goshen, Indiana.
