Baseball Drops Two to Siena Heights

WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Siena Heights (Mich.) won both ends of a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan University baseball on Saturday afternoon at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.

Indiana Wesleyan fell 4-1 in the first game of the doubleheader and then dropped a 9-1 decision in the second game. IWU evens their record on the season at 9-9 while Siena Heights improves to 4-6.

In the first game, Siena Heights did their damage in the top of the third inning with three runs. SHU added a fourth run in the sixth inning on an RBI single. Indiana Wesleyan scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Matt Donker (FR/Holland, Mich.) led the inning off with a single and a Preston Fugita (SR/Littleton, Colo.) sac bunt moved him to second. Thomas Barnes (SR/Marion, Ind.) then drove him home with a single to center. The deficit was 4-1 as IWU came to bat in the seventh inning. Logan Tomlinson (SO/Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Jacob Murphy (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) each had hits in the inning to bring the tying run to the plate with one out. But a strikeout and a deep fly ball to center field brought the game to a close.

In game two, Siena Heights plated four runs in the top of the first inning and were never threatened. Trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning, Indiana Wesleyan scored their only run of the game on a sac fly to center field by Craig Nesselhuf (JR/Littleton, Colo.) to score Nick Koh (SO/Auckland, N.Z.). Siena Heights added one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one more in the seventh for the 9-1 final score.

Indiana Wesleyan next plays at Cornerstone on Tuesday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
