Mahurin Scores 1,000th Career Point as Men?s Basketball Dominates Olivet

MARION, Ind. -- No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball scored the first 12 points to fly by Olivet (Mich.) for a 94-59 victory over visiting Olivet (Mich.) in Luckey Arena. Lane Mahurin (JR/Rockville, Ind.) scored a team-high 22 points as he ends the day with exactly 1,000 career points at Indiana Wesleyan.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored the first 12 points of the game in less than three minutes. The IWU lead did not fall below 10 points the rest of the way.
  • The Wildcats scored 37 points before the first half was even halfway through. IWU ended the opening half leading 59-26.
  • Indiana Wesleyan scored 59 points for a second consecutive half. IWU scored 59 points in the second half of Friday’s win over IU Kokomo.
  • The largest lead of the afternoon was 43 points which Indiana Wesleyan reached twice. IWU reached it the first tie at 71-28 with 17:01 left in the second half and the second one was 81-38 with 7:58 remaining.
  • All 11 Wildcats scored on Saturday. Everyone played more than 8 minutes and no one played more than 25:13.
  • Mahurin was 9-of-15 from the field for 22 points. He added three assists and three steals.
  • Jonny Marlin (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.
  • Bob Peters (JR/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) tallied 17 points and a team-best 6 rebounds.
  • Olivet turned the ball over 31 times and only had 1 assist.

     

Extra! Extra!

  • Indiana Wesleyan has scored 90 or more points in 9 of 11 game this season. IWU is fifth in NAIA Division II with 95 points per game.
  • Lane Mahurin scored his 1,000th career point during the second half. He is the only active Wildcat to have scored 1,000 points at Indiana Wesleyan. Bob Peters is second with 941 career points.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan travels to Arizona to play a pair of NAIA Division I schools out of Montana. IWU first plays Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on December 18 and then plays Great Falls (Mont.) on December 19.
