Baseball Loses to Morningside, 11-6

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Indiana Wesleyan University baseball lost an 11-6 decision to Morningside (Iowa) today at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.

The Wildcats captured a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning with five runs in the frame. IWU got their first run of the game when Jacob Murphy (JR, Hudsonville, Mich.) laid down a bunt and an overthrow at first allowed Caleb Birkey (SO, Granger, Ind.) to score. The Wildcats then strung together multiple hits to score four runs. Jack Collingsworth, Jr. (SO, Apple Valley Calif.), Craig Nesselhuf (SO, Littleton, Colo.), AJ Harris (SO, Temecula, Calif.) and Birkey all contributed RBI singles in the inning.

Morningside (5-10) closed the gap to one run at 5-4 in the fourth inning and tied it with another run in the fifth. Morningside scored three more runs in the sixth to take an 8-5 lead and then added three more insurance runs in the seventh on a bases clearing triple.

Harris hit an RBI single in the 7th inning for an 11-6 game. It would be the final run of the game.

Nesselhuf led the Wildcat offense today with four hits while Harris added three. Birkey, Logan Tomlinson (FR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif.), Preston Fugita (JR, Littleton, Colo.), Collingsworth, Jr., Cody Calvert (JR, Godfrey, Ill.), and Murphy all contributed one hit.

Indiana Wesleyan (0-9) will take Friday off before finishing the Spring Break Trip on Saturday with a doubleheader against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).
