Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The shots kept falling for No. 7-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team in a convincing 92-66 victory on the road at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
The Wildcats hit at an incredible 60.0-percent (33 of 55) clip today from the field and an even better 60.9-percent (14 of 23) from 3-point range. IWU earned assists on 27 of their 33 field goals made.
“Greatest thing we have going for us in unselfishness,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Greg Tonagel. “We shot well up here today. The guys were excited to play here and brought a lot of energy.”
Leading the charge was the senior duo of Jordan Weidner and RJ Mahurin. Weidner led all players with 25 points and 6 assists while Mahurin finished at 24 points and 6 boards. Weidner hit 8-of-14 field goal attempts and Mahurin hit 10-of-16.
Three point baskets were not at a premium as Indiana Wesleyan drilled 14 of them in 23 chances. The 14 3-pointers are the second most this season for the Wildcats. Six different Wildcats hit from beyond the arc led by DJ Bettinger with four 3-pointers while Weidner and Bob Peters each hit three.
Indiana Wesleyan (23-5, 13-3 CL) can now clinch a share of the Crossroads League regular season championship at home in Luckey Arena on Tuesday. Huntington (Ind.) defeated Grace (Ind.) today and Marian (Ind.) fell to Saint Francis (Ind.), thus Huntington is the only team that now trails Indiana Wesleyan by one game with two contests left in the regular season.
IWU can clinch the title outright on Tuesday with a victory and a Huntington loss at Saint Francis or by winning both games next week to close out the regular season.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Luckey Arena on Tuesday night and hosts Goshen (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on ‘Jersey Night.’ Every fan, student or adult, that wears a jersey to the game will be entered into a raffle to win a Brandon Beachy signed game-used jersey, signed ball, or a bat.
