Box Score OLIVET, Mich. -- The No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team won a non-league contest this afternoon by a 73-53 score at NCAA Division III Olivet (Mich.) in Olivet, Michigan.
Indiana Wesleyan led by just six points at halftime with a 33-27 lead. But in the first four and a half minutes of the second half, Indiana Wesleyan scored the first 15 points to lead 48-27. Olivet scored the next seven points to trail 48-34. The 14 point difference would be the closest Olivet got the rest of the game.
The Wildcats featured three players in double figures. Lane Mahurin (SO/Rockville, Ind.) was the only starter to reach double digits with 14 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the floor. Aaron Murray (SO/Louisville, Ky.) and Bob Peters (SO/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) both scored 10 points off the bench.
Indiana Wesleyan outrebounded Olivet 39-27. Zac Vandewater (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) led IWU with seven rebounds while Mahurin pulled down six boards. IWU earned 18 assists on 27 made field goals. Vandewater and Jonny Marlin (JR/Greenwood, Ind.) each had a game-best five assists.
Ten Wildcats played nine or more minutes against the Comets. Marlin had a team-high 28 minutes and Peters had 26. Everyone else played 24 minutes or less.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 12-0 this season while Olivet drops to 1-5.
Indiana Wesleyan will now take a flight to Bayamon, Puerto Rico tomorrow. IWU plays a pair of games down there on Tuesday and Wednesday. Indiana Wesleyan first plays Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on December 16 and then Puerto Rico-Bayamon on December 17.
