Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A close two point game at the half turned into a 19 point Bethel lead early in the second half as No. 22-ranked Bethel (Ind.) held on to beat No. 11-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University by a 95-85 score on Saturday afternoon in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Bethel held a slight 38-36 lead at halftime which featured six ties and eight lead changes in the half. But BC used a 24-7 run to start the second half to increase their advantage to 62-43. Indiana Wesleyan would never recover and could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Bethel outscored Indiana Wesleyan 57-49 in the second period.
Indiana Wesleyan was able to take seven more shot attempts than Bethel but the Pilots shot 10 more times from the foul line and won the battle on the boards by a wide 48-30 margin. Bethel finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds.
Jordan Weidner was one of four Wildcats in double figures with a game-high 21 points and a team-best 5 assists. RJ Mahurin added 20 points and 9 rebounds, Zac Vandewater contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Bob Peters scored 10 points.
The Wildcats were limited to 41.4-percent (29 of 70) shooting on the day and IWU fired off 30 3-point attempts and hit 11 (36.7-percent). IWU took care of the ball well and committed a season-low seven turnovers.
Bethel hit at a 50.8-percent (32 of 63) clip and was 25-of-32 (78.1-percent) from the foul line. BC boasted five players in double figures and held a 28-14 advantage in scoring from the bench.
The loss currently place Indiana Wesleyan in a second place tie in the Crossroads League with Huntington (Ind.) at 7-3. Huntington lost 64-55 at Marian (Ind.). Saint Francis (Ind.) is half a game up in the standings and the start of their game was delayed at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) due to weather.
Indiana Wesleyan returns home for their next game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. IWU hosts Grace (Ind.) in Luckey Arena.
