Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Brothers RJ and Lane Mahurin had quite the afternoon in Spring Arbor, Michigan as they led No. 2-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball to an 84-61 blowout of Aquinas (Mich.) in the Crossroads League / WHAC Challenge.
RJ Mahurin led all players in the victory with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. He earned a double-double with a game-best 11 rebounds. Lane Mahurin came off the bench to score 13 points, second most of any player in the game. Lane was 4-of-7 from the field and did all his damage in less than 12 minutes of action.
To open the game though, Aquinas raced out to a 9-2 lead. Indiana Wesleyan had not scored for four minutes until Lane Mahurin hit a basket in the paint. That basket sparked a 23-0 Indiana Wesleyan run that was capped by a 3 from Tyler Greathouse. During the eight minute stretch Greathouse scored seven points, his only points in the game.
Aquinas would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the contest.
Indiana Wesleyan would stretch their lead to as many as 27 points when Eric Readman scored off a turnover with 1:08 remaining as IWU led 84-57. Aquinas scored the final four points of the game for the final 84-61 score.
The Mahurin brothers were the only Wildcats in double figures today but everybody on the roster scored. The Wildcats had 12 of their 13 players score a field goal with the only player not to do so was leading scorer Jordan Weidner, who averaged 24.5 points per game entering the day.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 47.5-percent (29 of 61) from the field while holding Aquinas to just 37.3-percent (22 of 59). IWU won the battle of the boards 44-to-31.
Indiana Wesleyan will look to continue its hot start to the season with a huge test on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at IU Southeast. Last year, IU Southeast advanced to the NAIA National Tournament Semifinals and returns all their players.
