Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The No. 2-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball team put on quite a display for the home crowd in Luckey Arena this afternoon in a 99-80 victory over Cincinnati Christian (Ohio).
The Wildcats continually made flashy plays to thrill the home crowd as the team used a balanced scoring attack to improve to 7-1 on the season. Five Wildcats scored double figures and nine scored more than six points.
After Cincinnati Christian scored the first five points of the game Indiana Wesleyan responded with a 30-12 run and never looked back. Indiana Wesleyan built the lead to as many as 25 points at 53-28 in the first half before Cincinnati Christian scored the final five points for a 53-33 halftime score.
The Wildcat lead was between 20 and 26 points for the first nine minutes of the second half. A free throw by freshman guard Bob Peters put the Wildcats up 81-52 with 10:51 on the clock. The 29 point lead was the highest of the game. The Golden Eagles could only get the deficit down to 18 before the final outcome of 99-80.
Nate Bubash scored a career-high 16 points to tie for game-high honors. He was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line. RJ Mahurin and Jordan Weidner each added 14 points while Lane Mahurin added eight points and DJ Bettinger finished with 10.
Indiana Wesleyan shot a scorching 66.7-percent from the field on 34-of-51 shooting as IWU shot better than 65-percent in each half. Indiana Wesleyan hit at a clip of 41.2-percent (7 of 17) from 3-point range.
Indiana Wesleyan will begin Crossroads League play on Tuesday in a battle of top-10 teams. IWU hosts No. 9-ranked Bethel (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Luckey Arena. The game will be Grant County Night in Luckey as all Grant County residents with a Grant County license will receive free admission into the game.
