Men's Tennis Continues Hot Start with Win at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team won their sixth straight match to begin the 2012 fall schedule with a 6-3 victory over Cornerstone (Mich.) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

On the heels of two straight 5-4 victories, the Wildcats gave themselves just a bit more breathing room on Wednesday with the 6-3 victory. IWU opened the match with two wins in doubles play.

Kyle Johnson and Alex McMahan earned an 8-4 victory in the top match while Brooks Ayers and Alex Hornett won 8-6 in No. 3-doubles. Brandon Dubuque and Leonard Matthews lost in No. 2 play by a 9-8 margin.

Indiana Wesleyan won four of the six singles matches to clinch the team victory. Winning singles matches were Matthews (6-3, 6-4) at No. 1-singles, Dubuque (6-2, 6-2) in No. 2 action, Ayers (6-1, 6-4) at the No. 4 spot, and Daniel Smith (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6-singles. McMahan (4-6, 2-6) dropped No. 3-singles and Hornett (5-7, 3-6) fell in No. 5 competition.

Indiana Wesleyan will now remain in Grand Rapids the rest of the week for the ITA Midwest Tournament.
