HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Michael Caley was stellar on the mound for Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday to help the Wildcat baseball team secure a doubleheader split at Huntington (Ind.) University.

Caley allowed just one run on six hits in a complete game effort. He walked two and struck out four in a 91-pitch outing as Indiana Wesleyan won the nightcap 2-1. Earlier in the day, Huntington won the first game 7-3.

Indiana Wesleyan supplied all the offense Caley would need in the top of the first. Second baseman Jacob Murphy led the game off and was hit by a pitch. He stole second and later scored on a single by designated hitter Alex Ridlen. Rightfielder Craig Dollens would then knock in Ridlen with a single to right-field for a quick 2-0 lead.

Huntington would threaten in the fourth inning as the first three batters reached via a single, a walk, and an error. Caley retired the next hitter on a strikeout but Huntington scored a run on a balk. With the tying and go-ahead runs now in scoring position with just one out, Caley induced a line out and a ground out to escape any further damage and maintain the lead 2-1.

The Foresters would threaten one last time in the bottom of the seventh. A two out single moved the tying run to second base. But again Caley would induce a ground ball to short that ended the game.

Alex Ridlen was the only Wildcat with a multi-hit game as he finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Centerfielder Quinn Nofziger drew two walks and stole a base while leftfielder Seth White was 1-for-1 with a walk.

In game two, Huntington jumped out to a 5-0 lead with one run in the first and four more in the fourth.

Indiana Wesleyan would trim the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fifth when Seth White had an RBI single and Jacob Murphy added a sac fly as Indiana Wesleyan threatened. Quinn Nofziger came up as the tying run with two on and two outs but he grounded out to first to end the inning.

Huntington answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of that inning to quickly regain a five run cushion. The score would remain 7-2 until Indiana Wesleyan batted in the seventh.

Jacob Murphy hit a bases loaded single to left in the seventh inning to close the deficit to 7-3 with one out to bring the tying run to the plate. But Nofziger and Ridlen could not get the ball out of the infield as Huntington hung on for the 7-3 victory.

Indiana Wesleyan returns to the diamond at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 as IWU and Taylor (Ind.) University will battle in Upland, Indiana.
