MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University is playing its best baseball of the season. IWU continued that pace on Thursday with a road sweep of Bethel (Ind.) College in Mishawaka, Indiana.
The Wildcats dominated Game 1 by a 9-1 margin and completed the sweep with a 7-4 victory in Game 2. IWU has now won eight of its last 10 games and has earned a doubleheader sweep in three of its last five series.
Bryan Beachy continues his impressive rookie season at Indiana Wesleyan. He did not allow a base runner in Game 1 until the fourth inning. By that time, Indiana Wesleyan had already mounted an 8-0 advantage. The freshman allowed one run in the fourth inning but that was all Beachy would allow. He pitched a complete game for the win.
In Game 2, Bethel (18-34, 11-23 MCC) scored two runs in the fourth inning to gain a 2-1 lead. But Indiana Wesleyan tied it in the next half inning on a squeeze by third baseman Preston Fugita.
The score remained 2-2 until the seventh inning when the Wildcats exploded for five runs to capture a 7-2 lead. Bethel would score two in the bottom half of the seventh as IWU earned the sweep with a 7-4 win.
Indiana Wesleyan (24-29, 16-18 MCC) received another win from a freshman starting pitcher in Justin Sovine. Sophomore Chris Tyler entered in the seventh to pick up the save.
Indiana Wesleyan will finish the 2012 season on Saturday with a home doubleheader versus Bethel. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
